My name’s Josh Layne and thank you for visiting my site! I’ve been an avid outdoorsman ever since I can remember and developed a passion for writing as a child after discovering books like “Where the Sidewalk Ends” and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”, the latter of which had me so excited to tell my own scary stories that they often were included in my classwork submissions whether the teacher wanted them there or not!

I hiked and explored the foothills and mountains of Eastern San Diego County since I first set my eyes upon them as a bright eyed seven-year-old boy who stared at awe in wonder and amazement at the surrounding landscape and vistas of my new home. Almost forty years later and I’ve gotten to explore much more of our earth but am glad to say that I still have my childlike sense of wonder about the natural world and its creatures. I hope to bring that same sense of fascination to all who visit me here for the earth is truly an amazing place to be!

My goal is to provide you, the reader, with informative articles, short stories, and resources that will hopefully give you something to ponder or use the next time you’re out on the trail. As a kid I was immediately taken in by publications like “National Geographic” and “Zoo News” for their ability to use photos and text to immerse me in the jungles of the Congo with the gorillas and then, on the next page, take me to a rattlesnake den in the Mojave Desert on the other side of the world! It is some of that sort of mastery I wish to borrow and bring here so you can see the world as I do.
